Safety School

Lifeguard Training

Trains individual as a non-surf lifeguard. Red Cross certification earned in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Lifeguard Training upon successful completion of pretest, written exam and ALL skills.
Prerequisites:
Pretest, 15 years old

The Pretest includes a 300 Yards Swim (100 yards front crawl, 100 yards breaststoke, 100 yards front crawl or breaststroke) and a 20 Yard Brick Tow

Section I: May 23, 24, 25

Times:
Friday, May 23 from 5:00pm – 10:00pm
Saturday and Sunday, May 24-25 from 8:00am – 6:00pm
Registration Fee: $220.00 payable to TCNJ
LGT Maximum Class Size = 10 students

The book Lifeguard Training and a pocket mask must be purchased prior to class. Card fees are included in the registration fee. Enrollment does not guarantee certification.

CPR and AED for the Professional Rescuer

Advanced rescue skills, including Community CPR and other important rescue skills designed for professionals such as EMT’s and Lifeguards.

Oxygen Administration

The Oxygen Administration course is designed to provide individuals with the knowledge to use supplemental oxygen during breathing emergencies.

16 years old, CPR Pro Certification

Water Safety Instructor (WSI)

More commonly referred to as WSI, this American Red Cross course is needed for teaching swimming to individuals of all ages and abilities.  The pre-test consists of a skills test which includes demonstrating proficiency of the following strokes: 25 yards of front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke and 15 yards of butterfly.

*Arrangements for individuals needing FIT (Fundamentals of Instructor Training) will be made in addition to the regularly scheduled class times.

Lifeguard Training Instructor (LGTI)

Upon successful completion, students will be certified to teach Lifeguard Training, Basic Lifeguarding, Community Water Safety, First Aid, CPR, AED Essentials and Oxygen Administration.
Prerequisites:
Pretest, FIT*, 17 years old

(The pre-test includes written exams and skill evaluations in Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED, First Aid.) Students unable to successfully complete the pretest will not be admitted to class.

Pool Operator on Location

This course is an intensive program designed to train the pool operator to resolve a variety of pool operational problems.  Chemistry, filtration and disinfection will be the main topics covered in the course.  Safety, risk management, cost effective operation and other management techniques will also be discussed.

Registration Information

Forms

Late registrations are not accepted. Registration must be received and paid in full by the above deadline. Registrations are accepted in person or by main only. Phone-in registrations will not be accepted. Each participant is required to sign a consent form with their registration. There are NO REFUNDS.

Books are available on the first day of class for instructor level courses courses. The participant book and pocket mask must be purchased from your local American Red Cross chapter prior to the class.

Individuals are not eligible to use the pool outside of their class time unless they are members of the
Aquatic Center.

If conflicts arise with other Aquatic Center programs, the Safety School programs will be rescheduled. An exact schedule will be distributed in the first day of class. For all day courses, students may bring their own lunch or utilize the campus facilities. Confirmation of registration will be mailed along with a campus map and parking information upon receipt of full payment.
